Final Blog

I really liked science this year. My favorite thing we did in science was go to Stone Lab. My favorite lab we did was the cicada lab. One thing I didn't really like was working out of the book. Another thing I liked was the IDLs because I got to do the Lego Mindstorm. I really liked using Edmodo. I wish fifth grade science never ended. One thing I learned was OMG electricity!!!!!!!!!! Good bye everyone.

Balloon Investigation

I think that the graduated cylinder with more in it will have a bigger balloon, and the graduated cylinder with less in it will have a smaller balloon. The cylinder with 15 milliliters had the second largest circumference. The cylinder with 10 milliliters had the largest circumference. The cylinder with 5 milliliters had the smallest circumference. I could use a cup instead of a graduated cylinder.

Lego Mindstorm

For my IDL I did the Lego Mindstorm. I chose this project because I like Legos and programming. I feel that this project went well. This project was also very challenging. We successfully programmed the Mindstorm to go to Mrs. Norwell's room. We also successfully made the Mindstorm move. We struggled on building a maze for the Mindstorm to go through. We also struggled on building the Mindstorm because the pieces were in the wrong places sometimes. I learned how to build and program the Lego Mindstom. Something I would do differently next time is make a better obstacle course. I had a lot of fun working with the Lego Mindstorm.

5 Bonus Points

Today I watched a video on atoms and matter. Matter is anything that has mass and takes up space. Matter is made up of atoms. The nucleus is made up of protons and neutrons. Electrons are around the nucleus. A water molecule is made up of 2 hydrogen molecules and 1 oxygen molecule. The three states of matter are liquid, solid, and gas. There are freezing points, boiling points, and melting points. Also wood is a better insulator than metal. Mixtures can be separated by physical changes.

Sound

Today I watched a brain pop about sound and I learned many things. Sound is caused by vibrations. Also it travels in longitudinal waves. Amplitude determines how loud a sound is. Frequency determines the pitch of a sound. Pitch is how high or low a sound is. Sound travels faster through hot air than cold air, and faster through solids than liquids or gases. The oscilloscope is an instrument designed to measure sound waves. I learned many things about sound.
